Seeing as there is no stopping the baseball stadium from coming to El Paso, I believe the only positive solution is to allow citizens to vote on the location of the stadium. Although City Council has already made the plans with Pacific Railroad for the construction of the brand new minor league baseball park, I believe the city should give its residents a chance to decide on the part of the city to gain a stadium. I understand that the purpose of placing the stadium downtown is to attract more attention to the remodeling of the area, but how is it fair when it was forced upon residents? I am a huge baseball fan and I still find this wrong. Along with that how many citizens are going to feel comfortable being so close to the border with what is currently going on?
I am aware that the reason for the positioning of the stadium is to be able to attract people from El Paso, Las Cruces, and Juarez, but is that really going to work? How did the city plan to bring this stadium into town without taking into consideration the concerns and thoughts of the citizens? I believe City Council really meant to do well in adding the park to the new downtown image, but I do believe they went about adding the stadium all wrong. However, I do see a positive outcome and solution to this.
I believe the solution to this problem is at least allowing El Paso citizens to vote on the location of the stadium. City Council owes it to the citizens to give them at least this. After bringing in the team without the consent of El Paso and expecting the city to raise hotel taxes I believe City Council owes the residents a lot. The whole concept of America is for citizens to have a voice and with City Council and Mayor John Cook making decisions on their own behalf, although with good intentions, I believe they disrespected many people. I think the solution I have proposed is simple and reasonable. I also believe it would make residents more at ease with the addition of the organization. El Paso is a baseball town and I believe it always will be, so it was a good decision to bring the team here, it was just brought into town all wrong. Triple-A baseball will thrive in the borderland.
