Baseball in El Paso?
El Paso has acquired a minor league baseball team “only the second in Texas to have a Triple-A minor league team” (Ramirez, 2012) that will be moving into the city in 2014. City council made the decision to move the current Tucson Padres into downtown El Paso where city hall currently stands. The demolition of city hall will be replaced with a “$50 million baseball stadium”(Flores, 2012). However, the citizens of El Paso did not obtain the chance to vote on any of the specifications of the organizations move.
Although the ballpark is projected to be an excellent addition to the reconstruction of downtown El Paso, citizens were not given the option to voice their opinions on the matter. City council turned the probability of a ballpark into a reality and did so without the consent of its people. The argument over the ballpark revolves around the location and the money that is needed to pay for the ballpark and who is going to have to come forward with that money.
