EL Paso's new attraction is Minor League Baseball?
The addition of a minor league baseball team in El Paso is part of the reconstruction of turning downtown into a place for citizens and visitors alike to shop, eat, play and be entertained. The $50 million baseball stadium is planned to have restaurants, souvenir shops, bars and a family area. Acquiring a baseball stadium is part of providing safe family fun while boosting the city’s economy. The addition of the stadium should be one to help El Paso grow and resemble its bigger sister cities in east Texas.
Blaziek (2012) states that Triple-A Baseball is“one of many projects on the horizon that will brighten the prospect of our city in the eyes of travelers and convention planners.” The stadium is going to help El Paso reach the full potential the city possesses. One of the most common complaints in the city is the lack of things to do and the lack of entertainment the city has to offer at any given time of the year. City council is attempting to address this problem by reconstructing downtown into more of an entertainment district as the Women's United States Bowling Congress' Championship was here in 2010 and stated that the worst part of the trip was the “lack of things to do Downtown in the evening" (Blaziek, 2012). Adding baseball to El Paso is adding entertainment and business to the city, baseball fan or not.
